Temple House of Israel regards each member
as an important part of our mishpacha (family). Although small in
number, we are proud of our spirit, energy, history, and commitment to our
members.
Our congregation is governed by a Board of Directors
elected from the membership. In a small community such as ours, every voice
is important and is listened to. We offer our members and the community at
large a sense of caring, as well as a full complement of religious services
and activities for the entire family.
Temple House of Israel maintains a close relationship with
our sister congregation Beth El
in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We share the services of our
rabbi, Joe Blair, as well as various programming and social events. Religious services are held every other
week.
Our synagogue follows the principles of Reform Judaism, is
affiliated with the Reform movement, and is is a member of the
Union for Reform Judaism (formerly, The Union of American Hebrew Congregations).
We believe in a religious tradition that emphasizes liberal religious
practice and social action. We also consider ourselves part of the greater
community and support various interfaith programs, projects in the public
schools, and charitable drives for our needy fellow citizens.
The history of our congregation
dates back to 1876 and resides in Staunton,
Virginia.
